Cooperation of Nations in Regional Security
Visiting Japanese Minister of Defense Itsunori Onodera met with Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra at the Government House in Bangkok. Itsunori discussed about regional security affecting ASEAN, South China Sea and further strengthening of relations between the two nations.
The defense minister was in Bangkok on the second leg of his five-day trip to Vietnam and Thailand, which started Sunday, to boost security cooperation, particularly maritime security.
Yingluck and Onodera discussed the dispatch of Thai military personnel to study at National Defense Academy of Japan. Over 200 Thai military officials have studied there to date, while many Japanese officials have studied at the Army Command and General Staff College in Thailand.
Japan's has increased its defense capabilities in the face of potential threats from North Korea's missile program. The Defense Ministry preparing for the stationing of Patriot Advanced Capability-3 missile interceptors at its Tokyo headquarters by next year.
