CNN PRODUCER NOTE Zaina Kanaan says she was aboard car 5 of the train that smashed into the front portion of a bus in Ottawa, Ontario, on Wednesday, September 18. She lives in Dubai, but was visiting Canada with friends. (Read more on CNN.) Her plan was to travel from Montreal to Toronto. 'We had postponed the date a few times but agreed on the 18th. We had also toyed with the idea of driving ... but decided to take the safe and carefree method of the train.' She was sitting in the window seat and saw that the bus had been in an accident, not realizing that her train had actually hit it. 'When the bus stopped suddenly and bumpily, I thought we stopped to help the bus and people, and then my friend realized we had derailed and that behind us, through the end of the train opening, we could see the bus split in half without any view of the front of the bus. Shortly after, the ambulance came along with the police, and we could see them resuscitating the victims.' She says the incident was traumatic, but also made her think about the fact that anything can happen, at any time.
