Impact Your World
Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Week
According to the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation, every 30 minutes a child is born who will develop a mitochondrial disease by age 10. Mitochondrial diseases result from the failure of the mitochondria, which are located in the cells of our bodies and are responsible for creating more than 90% of the energy needed to sustain life and support growth. The disease robs the body of energy and the organs slowly stop working.
This week is Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Week. You can get more information at www.umdf.org. We hope that you will take the time to watch this video made by one of our Chronically Cool Families living with "Mito". Spread the word and help find a cure.
