Kithe Brewster Collection Spring 2014 Diary of a Collection
Birds were the inspiration for designer Kithe Brewster's collection for Spring 2014. Inspired by the many different shades and markings of the ornithological world Mr. Brewster served up a master palette in hues of blue, yellow, periwinkle, black, claret and white with a fresh new take on navy that looks like a shade of blue in an Yves Klein painting. One year after the launch of his first collection Kithe has established some classic looks that are new and fresh. His signature "kite" back dresses, a play on his name flow beautifully and look fantastic coming and going. Sheer blouses paired with chic lambskin pencil skirts and silk faille trousers mix well with beautifully draped day dresses in crepe de chine and confections in chantilly lace. Most notable a lovely periwinkle lace dress with unique sleeve treatment and a citron yellow lace skirt with white organza handkerchief hem. His hemlines are romantic and flowing and suit a multitude of women. A lambskin corset is embroidered with tufts of silk chiffon paired with a long silk chiffon box pleated skirt and handkerchief chiffon and organza cape in a divine color he is calling smoked lilac. Bucking convention Kithe is not afraid to play and mix it up with yellow citron top stitch and zipper detail on a silk chiffon dress in claret. The bird theme is most evident in a stunning silk faille cape dress with fan back detail that evokes an elegant wing span in citron. He cuts the perfect jumpsuit in white crepe de chine with yellow silk back and again in navy with silk mesh back. Being a world reknowned celebrity stylist it was only a matter of time before he launched his own brand. Kithe knows how to fit a woman while giving her choices for any time, day or event. The make up by Edward Cruz was a stunning contrast to the lovely clothes in an ombre effect that meshed fluidly with each look and model. Hair by Lisa Mitchell was kept clean and elegant in a french twist. Jewelry by Rodrigo Otazu was the perfect accessory choice and a favorite of Kithe's. Kithe's choice to show at the Maserati of Manhattan showroom in a clean white setting with the cars in the background was a perfect statement given the luxe feel of the line. Simple gold leather labels hand stitched into each garment are a hint of the understated luxury he offers. Known for dressing some of the most beautiful women in the world he has his sight set on a global brand allowing everyone to enjoy his style. I look forward to seeing what he has in store for us next season.
