Portage High School Special Needs Student Nominated For Homecoming Court Asked To Step Down

Mackenzie Aldrich was nominated for homecoming court at Portage High School this year. Windy City Gazette couldn’t be happier for her. Unfortunately, it appears that the high school has taken a different stance. Mackenzie is part of their special needs program and their department, as well as the principal, have allegedly called Mackenzie’s mother and said they do not believe it is in her best interest to ride in the parade or to be escorted onto the field by her father. Their concern seems to be that Mackenzie could get too giggly or distracted and that other children may make fun of her.
Let’s see what we can do to make Mackenzie’s homecoming court appearance a night she will remember for all the right reasons. We need a superfan section. And we know that our readers and their friends are the right place to start in asking for help. Let’s pack the stands. And make sure that Mackenzie knows we are there for HER. If anyone happens to laugh or make fun of her? We anticipate the great fans to be drowning them out with cheers, claps, and signs. Let’s make it happen.
