    Sunrise in the Bahamas

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Natural disaster surveyor sstransky sometimes finds quiets moments of beauty, even while he investigates destruction. When he traveled to the Bahamas back in late August 2011 to survey damage from Hurricane Irene, he saw a beautiful sunrise. ‘We woke up in the dark, and as we pulled into the airport, the sun was just rising,’ Stransky said.
    - CYDFISH7, CNN iReport producer

This photo was taken in the parking lot at sunrise at Nassau International Airport in the Bahamas, with the scene reflecting slightly off the roof of my rental car. It was taken in late August of 2011, when I was there to survey the damage after Hurricane Irene. We were up very early to catch an inter-island flight to Eleuthera Island, which sustained severe damage from the storm. My company builds computer models for various natural disasters, and viewing and collecting data on storm damage is a component of our work. I have also been on the team surveying the damage after this year’s Moore, Oklahoma tornado, the 2008 California wildfires, and the 2008 Super Tuesday tornado outbreak.
