This iReport is part of an assignment:
"They're focused on trying to mess with me. They're not focused on you."
Today, in a speech in Liberty, Missouri the president said:
"The debate that's going on in Congress is not meeting the test of helping middle-class families," Obama said. "They're focused on politics. They're focused on trying to mess with me. They're not focused on you."
This one quote says a lot about what is wrong with our nation. It speaks volumes about our president.
For years now the President has been insisting that he is champion of the middle class. Not only has he insisted that he is the only one out there protecting the middle class but that the Republicans are the enemy of the middle class.
Speeches about giving everyone a fair shot and leveling the playing field sound good to people that feel like the world is against them. It is not hard to sell water to thirsty people…but
The question is has the president’s policies given the middle class a better shot? Has the playing field become more level? Is the middle class doing better now than they were before he took office?
The way I see it, is that the middle class, especially the lower middle class has taken a major beating since the president took over. There are fewer good paying, full time jobs. Those who have good jobs are not getting the raises they once did. The cost of employer provided health benefits have gone up. There is less money at then end of their paychecks to invest in retirement. The price of goods and services has gone up. People are still underwater with their mortgages and on and on…
So today, he again suggested that he is for the middle class and the congress is against them. He suggests that congress is only interested in politics while he is the only one concerned with the well being of the middle class.
Our president came into office on a platform of using diplomacy and negotiation to solve big issues. While I realize he was talking more about foreign policy than internal politics, doesn't it seem that if he believed this on a world wide scale, he would also believe that here within his own country? His administration has been willing to sit down with any country (friend or foe) to talk about pretty much anything. How can he be so open to diplomacy around the world and so closed to it here within the government he has been elected to lead? Why was he in Missouri today instead of meeting with House members today? The House members that voted today to defund Obamacare?
The last part of the quote: They're focused on trying to mess with me. They're not focused on you."
Although recent polls have shown that there are more Americans that are against implementation of Obamacare than are for it, he suggests that the members of congress trying stop it are just doing so just to get back at him. Somehow it has never crossed his mind that people like me are writing to our congress members and telling them, defund the train wreck that is Obamacare. It never dawned on him to actually take what the American people are saying to heart.
I suppose the media has told him enough times that any opposition against his policies is just politics or racism, that he has bought the idea and now owns it. “They’re focused on trying to mess me with”; speaks volumes about the man elected to lead our nation, doesn't it?
