Five Flights and a Day in Sydney
- CYDFISH7, CNN iReport producer
On a beautiful day in July, 2012, I began a long trek to my Peace Corps Response assignment in Tonga as a Teacher Trainer from the country of Romania where I'd spent the last three years as a TEFL Volunteer. I got on a plane in Bucharest, traveled to London, then Singapore, then arrived in Sydney for twenty four hours of a visit that was a really nice break from being up in the sky all that time. Sydney is quite a ways from Romania-more than 15,000 km- so I was grateful to have the chance to visit as well as the chance to rest in such a famous city; a city where I'd always wanted to go. I did a bit of shopping, saw the spectacular Sydney Opera House, browsed around Circular Quay and The Rocks, had some of the tastiest grilled seafood and scones with jam around for lunch, got a chance to see the Titanic 100 years exhibit at the Maritime Museum, enjoyed the fabulous sunshine gleaming on the water during a harbor cruise and lastly, took my day of memory to bed after dinner to gear up for the remainder of my trip to Nuku 'alofa which then took me to Fiji and finally to the island of Tonga for an added 3700 km to complete my journey where I would find yet another true gem of the South Pacific. So, thanks to the Peace Corps, I got to Sydney on a free ride. Ain't life grand!
