Great Horned Owl Returned to the Wild

This great horned owl was found near an ATV trail in Debert, Nova Scotia. It was seen staggering and tumbling down a hill in obvious distress and unable to fly. It was brought to the Cobequid Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre (CWRC) in Hilden where it was assessed by veterinarian and centre co-founder, Dr. Helene Van Doninck.

The examination revealed that the bird was severely emaciated and had a fracture of its left leg that was mostly healed.

The bird spent several months recuperating at the CWRC where it slowly regained its strength and ability to fly.

It was released on Sunday, September 22, 2013 near where it was found.
