Indictments say a Greenville man shot four people this summer because of their race.
Lakim Faust was indicted by a grand jury on Monday on 14 different counts, including attempted first degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
The shootings took place on June 21st outside the Kellum Law Firm and the Walmart, both on Greenville Boulevard. All four people wounded are white, while Faust is black.
The indictments say Faust shot the four men because of their "race, color, religion, nationality, or country of origin." All four men recovered from their wounds.
GEICO insurance adjuster Tim Edwards was shot first outside of the law firm as he sat in his car. Police say Faust then walked across the street to the Walmart where he shot Vernon Leggett, Carroll Oakes and Haywood Whichard.
Officers shot and wounded the 23-year-old Faust on Hooker Road.
Search warrants say police seized a Qur'an and other material on the Muslim religion from Faust's apartment on Hartford Street after the shooting.
Faust was hospitalized at Vidant Medical Center for two weeks after the shooting, but was eventually moved to the hospital Central Prison in Raleigh.
