Bombshell dropped inside Phl Senate
In a privilege speech, Estrada mentioned the names of Senators Kiko Pangilinan, Miriam Defensor Santiago, Alan Peter Cayetano and Manny Villar as among the lawmakers who allegedly used their “pork barrel” funds for ghost projects.
Estrada, along with Senators Juan Ponce Enrile and Ramon “Bong” Revilla, is facing plunder charges allegedly for channeling their “pork barrel” funds to the P10-billion bogus foundations of Scam Queen Janet Lim-Napoles.
The P10-billion “Pork barrel” scam is now being investigated by the Senate blue ribbon committee chaired by Senator TG Guingina.
“One of our colleagues, during the investigations, even tried to play to the gallery by making snide remarks while asking the witness about the identity of the alias of one of the senators involved. Why do they play this up when there are already media reports about this?” he said.
Estrada was referring to Cayetano, one of the administration senators, who grilled one of the whistleblowers during a Senate inquiry on the controversial P10-billion “pork barrel” scam.
It can be recalled that Cayetano, while interrogating whistleblower Benhur Luy at the Senate blue ribbon committee hearing on September 12, quipped, "Who’s that senator? What’s his campaign slogan?”
Estrada urged his colleagues not to wash their hands of the alleged scam and “not to be hypocrites.”
He said the public has forgotten that there are other lawmakers in a report by the Commission on Audit (COA) questioning the alleged irregular transactions of allies of President Benigno Aquino III.
He cited House Majority Leader Neptali Gonzales II, who allegedly had P6.6 million in Jollibee purchases.
Estrada asked why Gonzales was not even questioned. “Is it because he is a member of the administration’s Liberal Party? I am just asking.”
Aside from Gonzales, he also made mention of Representatives Henedina Abad and Isidro Ungab as among the lawmakers whose pork barrel funds were used for ghost projects.
Henedina is the wife of Butch Abad, Aquino’s budget secretary.
