Currently my family has no health insurance. I was self-employed for almost 15 years before taking a full time job 2 years ago. I was very happy being self-employed but my income could not keep up with the cost health insurance, so I went to work for a big company. Last month I was laid off from that company and with that lay off my family was left with no health Insurance. I was offered COBRA from my employer at the cost of $2100 a month, which we cannot afford. Most private insurance companies have given us quotes at around $1500 a month that won’t be able to start until January, which is still too high. I was told that I make too much money threw self employment to qualify for financial help with insurance. We had to cancel a lot of the activities of 6 year old daughter likes to do out of fear of her getting hurt. She was very upset when we told her she couldn’t go to gymnastics or horse riding for a while. We hold our breath when she plays on the playground with her friends. We are living in constant fear of something happening to one of us. I believe health reform has a lot of beneficial parts to it, but doesn’t do enough to bring cost down for middle class people. It puts too much of a burden on business and turns middle class employees in to corporate slaves afraid of losing there jobs. The law needs to be tweaked, to bring cost further down and give people more options. They should not have taken the public option off the table.
