This iReport is part of an assignment:
Obamacare: Your story
Yes, I'm insured thank God
Up until Jan. 2010 my healthcare premiums were paid by my employer 100 percent. I had a very low co-pay for Doctor visits and prescriptions.
Then came Obamacare which decided I needed to start paying for premiums out of my pension check (which was liveable but not excessive then). This is what happened next.
2010-$49.00 per month
2011-$101.00 per month
2012-$149.00 per month
2013-$222.00 per month
2014-Still waiting to find out how much more.
So now my pension does not cover my living expenses but luckily I have an IRA that I dip into for that. I live a VERY modest life.
Each Nov. when I get my notice of my HC insurance premiums going up, I consider dropping it all together because soon I will have no pension money left. I even called an insurance agent to see how much I would pay if I dropped what I had and got something comparable.. After letting him know what I had he told me not to drop it because I would be paying over $700.00 per month for a comparable plan.
I was still considering dropping HC all together up until 2 days ago when I found out I have a health concern that will be with me the rest of my life. And to think, coming this Nov. I would have done the worst thing I could have done. If I had dropped my HC insurance I more that likely would have somehow gotten Obamacare's. Somehow I doubt his plan would have been affordable considering all the deductibles-co-pays-prescriptions and premium costs that will go with it.
Someone was looking out for me.
