Since March of this year, I am a self employed, small business owner, age 61, and have been recently covered under COBRA from my previous employer, for $398/month under Coventry. My COBRA coverage has just ended, and Coventry One has informed me that to continue coverage with them under an individual policy, my premium will now be $2,495/month. That's $29,940 per year, for a catastrophic, $5000 deductible plan, for just myself. They explain the premium increase is due to my having retinopathy, a condition in my left eye. The Affordable Care Act is my best opportunity to obtain coverage going forward, without being denied or penalized for pre-existing conditions. Let's give it a chance to work.
