I have had problems with Insurance for a long time. I have 4 children. 1 with ADHD, asthma and other problems. 1 with ADD, severe depression, two surgeries at age 9 & 11, lactose intolerant and weak immune system. 1 with just asthma. The last 1 with a slight learning disability in socialization being borderline it was either retarded or autistic. Sometimes I had Hoosier Healthwise but there were times that I didn't have insurance. I have not had good credit ever. I don't even know what it's like to have decent credit. It is heart breaking when you can't hardly get your kidsinto the doctor for things you know they need. I was a single mom from 2001 to 2005. You have no idea how it feels to not be able to make a paycheck over around $300 a month and have kids to care for. I have had no help from anyone at all with anything. There have been times that my electric has been turned off for even a week. One time was in the middle of winter. I only had a Kerosene heater to heat the house with as well. I should have had my kids into counseling because of the divorce I went through. I even needed depression medicine and counseling but I didn't have any Insurance on me and had no one to go to about understanding things about counseling and how it would help us all. If I had Insurance back then like I needed I could have helped my kids not have such a hard time going through the divorce I went through. I could have been a much better mom and there for my mom if I had insurance to help me pay for counseling for me and would have been able to have medicine to help me through the depression I was going through. I have never had good Insurance. It is now 2013. I work full time for about $8.50 an hour with a type of piece rate. No Insurance. I still have two kids at home. One is 24 and the other is 19. My 19 year old is the one with asthma, two surgeries, severe depression and bad immune system. She goes to the emergency room when she is really sick because she can't even hold a job at the moment. She can't even get insurance at the moment. My Insurance from work says they will cover her but there is a problem. The workers are offered insurance that don't pay for anything unless you meet a $3000 single or $6000 family deductible. I took that insurance only one year and then canceled that because I was actually paying every doctor bill we would have and the insurance payed nothing. I was paying our close to $3000 a year for insurance I could not even use. I dropped the insurance because I was not going to pay an insurance company money just to say I had insurance but they payed nothing at all because of the deductible being so high. My 19 year old needs to see a specialist because she gets bladder infections every month. How would you feel knowing your child's bladder or kidneys could be scaring because of infections? I can't do anything about this. Then on top of this Hoosier Healthwise would make her go my her parents income. Me and my husband make just over the limit for us to be poverty level. So she doesn't get the help then. Our insurance won't cover any doctor visits for her because of the deductible. We all know how much the doctor bills would be before we even get to the deductible before the insurance would kick in. I don't have that kind of money and neither does she. My husband needs out of office surgery for sty's on his eyes but we can't pay for that. Thank goodness he isn't having any heart problems at his age. He's 56. I'm 47. I have things I want to get to the doctor for but can do that when the doctor visits are so high. So it is always on the back burner. We don't go to the doctor unless we really have to. Unless you have lived without insurance you have no idea what it's like. It is pretty pathetic that you can only go to the emergency room when your sick because they don't ask for money up front right then and there. I don't know a whole lot about the Government insurance that is coming out but I am just thrilled like crazy that our work place now has to upgrade their insurance. It's about time. I am also happy to get government help with insurance. I have heard though that older people will be paying more then others that are younger. That is horrible I think because how are older people that are on a fixed income supposed to afford that. They are on a fixed income and do you realize that alot of older people only get close to $300 or less a week for all of their bills? This is a sad thing that older people get such small amounts to live off of. Work places here don't even pay enough to the workers to be able to make it with the economy the way it is and then you have the older people who have no chance of even making more then they are getting. Food or bills over and over again. Why can't the government help with a worker's pay now. Christmas is coming. How many families will be going through the choice of paying bills or getting your kids Christmas presents. I had to do that before when I was a single mom. It sucks like nothing else to know that your kids will not have Christmas. One time I had $30 left over from my paycheck the Friday before Christmas and the only place I could buy presents for 4 kids was at a second hand store. Would you do that? Buy second hand toys for your kids from a second hand store? You should try that sometime. Take only $30 and try to buy for 4 kids. This insurance I think will help parents. Especially single parents with lower incomes or even middle class parents like I am now. It really will ease the parents worries. I hope this Insurance will be what I have heard it to be. I am so ready to climb onboard and I can't wait. I have no insurance right now and can't wait to get it. I enclosed a picture of me with my son and grandson. Thank you.
