A Government Shutdown? Congress Will Still Get Paid
Did our Country's Founders think it was a good idea to have a government? Well, of course. They sat for weeks hammering out the details of the framework that is now what we call the United States.
So why is it that the Republican Party feels the need to strangle the life out of what our founder's thought was a good idea and important?
At the same time the GOP holds the head of our government under water in the bathtub, they clutch the Constitution in their free hand and claim, "See! We're protecting what our founders created."
The GOP and their Koch sponsored Tea Party fringe elements will tell us that that's not true. They feel government's gotten too big!
Why do the Republicans hate Obamacare? They don't. It's a red herring they can toss as though it were important in order to pass the 'Ryan Budget'.
The Obamacare puts 30 million more people on the roles of membership of corrupt health care insurance companies. That will add to these company's bottom line. Low income people will get a subsidy from government to pay their premiums. Are Republicans against subsidies for big businesses? No. They like that. They just pretend to be against it so their conservative base will feel they tried to kill Obamacare.
The GOP has never been against oil subsidies or subsidies for their friends on Wall Street.
Are Republicans worried about Americans that will be forced to buy insurance of face a fine?
Have they ever expressed their concern for the fees corporate America has passed on to all of us for cable, phones, electric, or charges from the big banks?
So why all the fuss now over Obamacare? Really.
The GOP wants to cut $39 billion from food stamps and give $20 billion more to the military while holding the Bible in their right hand.
That pretty much says all that needs to be said about the GOP.
When the GOP says government is too big, what they really mean is that they'd like to privatize government services so their rich donors can make more corporate welfare.
But doesn't Obamacare do just that?
This is where the Teapublicans have gone crazy. This fight and the threat to shut down government is a diversion. They want the Keystone XL Pipeline passed for the Kochs. They don't want the EPA prying into the affairs of our country's biggest polluters.
And they don't want Federal regulators watching the big banks. The GOP is doing what they were all hired to do.
So while they rail against Obamacare, (which they really want) they can claim to their supporters that they tried but President Obama and the Democrats wouldn't let them stop this terrible health care law from being funded. (Wink and a nod to the Health Care Industry)
"Historian Richard B. Morris in 1973 identified the following seven figures as the key Founding Fathers: John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and George Washington.
Some historians define the "Founding Fathers" to mean a larger group, including not only the Signers and the Framers but also all those who, whether as politicians, jurists, statesmen, soldiers, diplomats, or ordinary citizens, took part in winning American independence and creating the United States of America.
Many of the "Founding Fathers" owned African American slaves and the Constitution adopted in 1787 sanctioned the system of slavery."
We have changed as a country from what our Founding Fathers could have envisioned.
People don't own people anymore in this country.
Thomas Jefferson couldn't have imagined the need for a Federal Aviation Administration in his day and age.
So how can Republicans, who believe we should take America back to what our Founder's had in mind, reasonablly believe that this is possible?
Maybe some would like slavery to return.
It has, in a way, when you look at our minimum wage. Republicans are trying to prevent that from increasing.
They don't see the need for any Federal Programs that will help the poor or the unemployed.
What the Republican Party really wants is to de-fund government services and transfer those services to the 'private sector'.
And they don't care if government shuts down. They all have a cushy job waiting with Wall Street.
Besides, if the GOP succeeds in shutting down our government, hundreds of thousands of Americans will be hurt. The few fanatics that caused the shutdown will still get a paycheck.
And many of their naïve, uninformed, middle class supporters will applaud them. So will the Koch Brothers.
