I currently have no health insurance. I started my current job in March 2013 and my employer does not provide health benefits until you're employed there for 1 year. After a few years of being unemployed I accepted this position even though I would have to wait for health benefits. I have gone to the gym for almost 20 years and ride a bike and considered myself healthy (I'm 5'9 and 172 lbs). Now over the past 10 or so days I am feeling a problem with my heart. I'm not in pain or out of breath but I feel something is off in the way my heart is beating. I won't go to a doctor. Not that I am scared of what is going on, but because I don't want to open up a can of worms and be in debt because of medical bills. I am slowly building up my savings again after a prolonged period of unemployment. Even though my personal retirement account had done very well during this time I cannot touch it without penalties if an emergency did happen. Now I basically have to roll the dice and hope this issue passes and hope that I am wrong with what's going on. Not having medical insurance in America is very rough. You either have it or you go to the poor house if something does happen. For me I just alter my life style (no gym, no bike) and hope I get insurance in time before any damage is done.
