This iReport is part of an assignment:
Obamacare: Your story
Uninsured since 18
I looked into the Obamacare last night on the government website (http://www.healthcare.gov) according to the Kaiser site I would be paying just as much on the plan as I could purchase healthcare for now. Currently I am working on my undergraduate degree and even my school does not offer a student health benefit plan because they were denied coverage because they don't meet the qualifications with less than 20 applicants.
I have been an EMT for five years now and I can say that the number of students I've seen whom are uninsured are staggering. Many of these students either had parents who could not afford to pay for their insurance or couldn't afford it themselves. When I checked into the plans available from the government I would be paying nearly $300 per month with absolutely no help from the government because I don't fall under the 133% federal poverty level. My income each year while in college full time is less than the minimum requirement for a subsidy but they would not approve me for that.
If this is how my government looks after it's people, I'll be glad if a federal government shutdown takes place. Maybe then we could establish the original constitution again in the country which is what we have lost with a large government. Take it for what it is, but social medicine is not for me.
