Shutdown over: What next?
Are You Expendable?
My husband is a mechanical engineer and a Civil Service employee. We have not had a cost of living raise in 3 years. He unhappily stayed home for the 6 furlough days required of Civil Service workers, causing him to get behind in his work as the end of the fiscal year loomed. Now we are told that no budget has been passed and he may be home indefinitely. We helped our children through the last furlough as best as we could but we are in no position to do that now.
These ridiculous political games are hurting my family in a very personal way. My son and son-in-law both work for Civil Service in the National Guard and are also Guard reservists. They have small children and count on a regular paycheck for basics such as food and housing.
What does one do when they have been hanging on by a string and that small string is beginning to unravel? When their elected representatives turn their back on them? When the government all but tells them they are expendable?
They get angry! My family members are good, hard working, dependable men that are tired of having their paychecks manipulated by politics. Are they expendable? HELL NO!
Members of the House and Senate beware. YOU are EXPENDABLE!! You have abused your power and caused harm to one of the few segments of society that was working properly and paying taxes to provide for all those who cannot or will not work. Right now we have no choice and must stand by patiently while you adversely impact our ability to provide for our families. Rest assured that when the time comes for your re-election we will be as kind to you as you have been to us! You have failed to do the job you were elected to do and we are fed up!
