I am a Federal Army Employee, whom is also a retired disabled veteran. My office supports over 56000 Soldiers with 15 civilians and 8 Soldiers. We move Soldiers to and fro deploying units. To training units and various organizations worldwide. I am shocked at what has taken place. 15 employees were removed from this office in one day. Eight Soldiers cannot take up the slack for 15 absent employees. Our office receives over 10,000 calls. Eight can not make that happen. Weekly I answer special cases for Soldiers. Soldiers that have emergencies that need to be addressed in hours not days. Two thirds of building I work in is comprised of civilians. Nearly all of us are home not working. Who suffers? The Soldier in fort hood who needs his family added to his orders today so they can leave as a family unit tomorrow to an overseas assignment. That Soldier that is in Afghanistan that only has a ten minute window to get his immediate needs addressed before he returns back on patrol. The Soldier that is calling out of desperation to get a deferment due to extreme family problems, so that the gaining unit wont declare them AWOL. This year alone I have answered at least thirteen calls this year from Soldiers that have been suicide threats. Who suffers? The Soldiers! I was a committed Soldier. I am still committed to every Soldier and don't want to see them suffer. I serve Soldiers that have deployed anywhere from one to ten times. They deserve to have a full staff answering there needs. They don't get paid a lot to be on 24 hour duty. The least the nation can give them is decent compensation, good equipment, and the best personnel and logistic support the nation can give them. The Shutdown does not support the nation nor the Soldiers stateside, or the Soldier that is away from their family. Let's get it together soon!
