How do you think our founding fathers would react to what it going on right now with Congress? When our founding fathers debated on how to create a government, it was well aware of the issues at home and abroad. But, could they have ever planned for the fact that the government would find itself unable to govern in the future. What would James Madison do?
No doubt Congress has scoured the constitution to know that there is nothing in there that keeps them from doing what they are doing. There is no constitutional command to Congress and the president to avoid an impasse over the budget that leads to turning out the lights and closing the doors on many if not most of the federal agencies.What would James Madison do?
Impeachment, of course, does not apply to the House and Senate, like it does for a president, so there could be no remedy other than voting the lawmakers out of office the next time an election is held.What would James Madison do?
I feel embarrassed. The world is looking at us in disgust. I would not doubt that they view us as weak entity. We are not a superpower in their eyes. We have lost it all in the divorce because we could not compromise. We have lost it all in the divorce because Congress can not respect each other. We have lost it all in the divorce because Congress only cares about their own personal agendas. We have lost it all....The first paragraph of the constitution says...
We the People of the United States, in
Order to form a more perfect Union,
establish Justice, insure domestic
Tranquility, provide for the common
defense, promote the general Welfare, and
secure the Blessings of Liberty to
ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and
establish this Constitution for the United
States of America
Article 1, Section 6 says," The Senators and Representatives shall receive a Compensation for their Services, to be ascertained by Law, and paid out of the Treasury of the United States. They shall
in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace"
So, breach of Peace, how is that defined? I would find what Congress is doing right now a breach of peace. So why are they still getting paid? At the minimum however long the government is closed this time should be subtracted from their public service,meaning some would not qualify for retirement benefits unless they are re-elected. What would James Madison do?
It’s time to govern. The amount of money that is being wasted and will be wasted with this shut down is enormous. President Obama has a tough job. It does not matter whether you agree with him or not, what congress is doing is just wrong. Congress should be ashamed of themselves. What would James Madison do?
I am going to see about creating an amendment/article. I have never done that, but will figure it out how to do this. This amendment/article to the constitution would ensure this never happens again. That Congress is held accountable. That they create budgets in a timely manner and stick to them. When they don't do this.....they are penalized....heavily,etc. Who wants to help me?
