This iReport is part of an assignment:
    Diwali, the festival of lights

    Diwali in Singapore

The word Diwali literally translates as "a row of lamps" in Sanskrit, and a festival of lights is exactly what happens along Serangoon Road in Singapore during this annual celebration.

The streets along Little India are filled with crowds several weeks before the actual day, combing through bazaars to bring home some cheer in the form of oil lamps, new clothes or sweets and snacks.

The multi cultural lifestyle in Singapore allows non Hindus and Jains to observe and participate in their rich culture of celebrating the victory of good over evil.
