Obamacare: Your story
My car has it ....why don't I?
Six years ago today I was fighting for my life, without insurance and without a red penny to my name, stricken with AML Leukemia I was fighting for my life; but I wasn't fighting alone. How? Why me? MDA and people like you saved my life and I was uninsured without a penny to my name.
Why me? I have asked myself this question many times. Why was my life spared when so many are denied? Why did I get treatment at the worlds most recognized cancer center – MDA Houston, TX? Without Insurance, who paid for my medical bills? Who is paying my medical bills? I spent 7 weeks on the sixth floor of MDA’s cancer facility in Houston with arguably the best medical staff on the planet; without insurance; without a penny to my name…Why Me? I spent 15 months receiving out-patient treatment; 7 days a week shorten to 5 days a week until the all clear was given. My medical bills are in the Millions of Dollars yet for me I owe 50,000 – the price of a car. Who paid? Why was I so lucky?
It’s unfortunate to belittle health insurance to this standard but I can only think of it like this; In Texas it is Mandatory for me to have insurance on my car. Why? So that the insured and Insurance Companies don’t pay my bill (Period).
With my medical bills in the millions and I owing a fraction of that who pays the rest? Who paid the balance? Why was I so lucky? Why me?
I’ve been on every side of this issue. I’ve worked for fortune 500 companies and as 1099 contractor and everything in-between; we all need health insurance and a medium in which to obtain it.
God's grace saved me once I'd rather not roll the dice again. Sign me up for insurance my car has it why don't I?
