Normally Skittish Catalina Island Deer Make New Friends
Since there is not much to eat in the dry regions at the top of the hills, certainly the lush landscaping and water fountains along the beaches might be inviting to hungry and thirsty island deer.
And they are right to lose that skittishness and come make friends. My daughter and her boyfriend rented a golf cart for a little island sight-seeing on Sunday, Sept. 29. They came upon a business owner who brings what's left of her restaurant's old lettuce to a spot near Descanso Beach and feeds the gentle Bambi's.
These deer were perfectly content to act friendly with my daughter and her boyfriend and even agreed to take some pictures! I t was so sweet. Because of the lack of island predators, (probably just the little foxes, wild pigs and re-introduced bald eagles night bother the deer) all is well down near the shoreline when these gentle creatures decide to shed their aloof attitude and act friendly!
