Visitors to the National Mall on Thursday, Oct. 3rd, blatantly ignored the signs and barricades placed throughout the Mall indicated it was closed due to the shutdown. After being asked if the Mall was open despite the government shutdown a National Park Service employee explained that the area was officially closed but that visitors were simply ignoring the barricades. Although the Lincoln Memorial is still closed off, busloads of tourists are walking around the National Mall, including the Vietnam War Memorial.
