Fair Food Truth Tour Comes to Publix in Atlanta
The Coalition of Immokale Workers, supporters of the Fair Food Program, demonstrated at Publix Supermarket in an Atlanta neighborhood today. Atlanta is one of many stops on the group's Publix Truth Tour.
The FFP emerged from the Coalition of Immokalee Workers’ (CIW) successful Campaign for Fair Food, a campaign to affirm the human rights of tomato workers and improve the conditions under which they labor, according to the group's website.
"We are just asking for fair treatment, water breaks, protection from sexual harrasment, and minimum wage," said one of the protesters.
When asked for comments, Publix manager said, "Our response can be found on our website."
To date, McDonald's, Trader Joe's Supermarkets, Whole Foods Supermarkets, and others have agreed to the Fair Food Program.
