I am currently serving active duty in the Military, and was not paid due to the fiscal year funding issues (government shutdown). America is under the impression that all military folks are taken care of. A lot of us were relying on FY funding. Especially those of us that were extended to go beyond Sep 30th on active duty. We currently have an obligation to be at work, but are not getting paid. Particularly, myself am unable to provide health coverage for my sick daughter. The offices on base that update the benefits eligibility (especially when there's a change in obligatory service) are closed. I am going to be charged for my daughter's doctor visit, and have to pay the prescription out of pocket. Why? Because nobody is around to update my benefits to reflect my active duty extension into FY14.
Navy Marine Corps Relief Society is unable to help us affected service members. They are unable to replace (loan) all the paychecks for the affected members. Its just too many of us. I hope that you can find my story of some value to you. I am willing to give you more information to make the American people aware of this issue. Thank you.
