After reading many ireports here, I wonder if schools are teaching civics classes anymore? People have no idea how the government works. For example, can anyone tell us about the three branches of government? Judicial, executive, and legislative. And how laws are created, passed, and enforced? I'll start with the first misnomer. Citizens do not elect a President. Yes, we go to the polls and cast a ballot. Yes, CNN declares a winner. However, it is the Electoral College that actually casts the final deciding votes. Members are not obligated to vote the way the citizens voted, but normally do. This prevents a last minute surprise with the President. Schoolhouse Rock had a good skit about a bill and how it makes it way to law. I suggest watching it on YouTube. I bet foreigners know more about how our government works than we do. In the end, there is a compromise to appease most people.
