Shutdown over: What next?
We Are Not A Party. Are We Are One Nation, Under God With Liberty and Justice For All?
My name is DFCole. Currently I am a Texas resident. I am also a Federal Employee. I am writing to make my opinion heard as a citizen of the United States of America. Primarily I am very ashamed of the message that is being sent to the people of our nation and the rest of the world concerning the U.S. This stale mate in our government shows that we are not the "United" States of America because our leaders are not willing to compromise their agendas for the well being of those who actually serve the nation, the citizens. How can our government remain as a symbol of hope and aid others, when our own internal affairs cannot be resolved and we are on a moral decline? This troubles me because I believe that such division gives off the wrong message to citizens and causes our leaders to loose credibility in handling very pressing issues. We are in a crisis, but how will our nation’s leaders come together when faced with greater challenges than these. We are watching, our children are watching, and the whole world is watching what is being done in their decision making. The President and the Democratic Party are blaming the Republicans for not funding the Obama Care agenda. Many Republicans are taking a firm stand against the Obamacare. Personally I am not in total support of it because I have been both with and without healthcare. I've been employed and unemployed. I have had to work hard and at the same time, there was a point in my life when my family and I needed government assistance. We have had to count down to the last dollar for our necessities, so any additional amount has an impact on some families. I’ve also worked most of my career in the private healthcare business sector. Where I see the need for reform. I've witnessed abuse of mandated medical emergency services, unfair insurance rates, and the inflation of healthcare cost. I've had to request a payment from a heart patient 1-2 days following a bypass procedure. Obamacare has some benefits for select groups, but it also restrains some of the liberties of citizens by imposing legislation that has not totally gained the support of the people. I think that if it becomes a requirement for the President and his family, and the Congressman to abide by the same standards of healthcare as the common citizen, it will actually make them be more selective in the legislation they pass and remember that they are chosen for the people by the people. I believe, as the head leader for our nation, if necessary, the funding for Obama care could be delayed or proposed at another designated time if removing this from the budget would allow the budget to pass through Congress and the House. At the same time, I believe that there has to be some compromise on the Republican side. Often when I am faced with the decision of who I will vote for, whether president or local officials, many times I struggle because I am not necessarily a Democrat or Republican. I am a citizen of the Unites States, a member of the working class, a former military service member, a mother of three, a wife, and a person who's life is impacted by every decision that is being made in Congress and the House. At this time, I am concerned about the wisdom that is being exercised by our leaders. By looking at our nation's founding fathers, it can be safely said, there was a time when they were also faced with the challenge of choosing the well being of "the people" over their personal agendas. They chose wisely, and we are still able to reap some of the benefits of their collaboration (The Constitution).
