    Shutdown over: What next?

Federal Wildland Firefighters Closed out of Dream house

My fiancé and I have served as FEDERAL Wildland firefighters for the National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, and now the Bureau of Land Management. We have spent most of our adult lives risking our lives on wildfires all across the country. Before this Government shutdown we had being trying to buy a house. Last thursday morning we were set to Close on our dream house in Fairbanks, AK. By Thursday afternoon our closing on the house was canceled because the bank did not have guidance on how they were going to lend to Furloughed Federal Employees. What Washington fails to understand is the sacrifices we have made in our lives, because we were proud to work for the government, especially protecting something we truly cared about. Now we can not even achieve the "American Dream" to finally own our own home and start a family. We are extremely frustrated as we now have to move into a hotel until congress can figure out a budget. We ARE Extremely good at our jobs and are constantly evaluated on our performance throughout the fiscal year- We would like Washington to know They are Deficient at every aspect of their job... PUT That in their file. Your games are really hurting the rest of us.
