This iReport is part of an assignment:
Shutdown over: What next?
I need affordable care and why you need me to have it.
So why do you want me to have insurance and fund the Affordable Care Act. Consider me the cannery in the coal mine. When a person who would have been considered upper middle class before 2008, can't afford health insurance, the entire system is broken and is in more trouble than is easily seen. If Affordable care is defunded, here is my new health care plan, and one I would recommend to others in my position. I will find a Doctor that will take a retainer to treat me for the small stuff. I will save the money that I am now spending on health insurance in an account so that if I have a more critical illness, I will leave the country for my treatment. I understand the risks if I have a catastrophic illness, but with my insurance plan, I have determined that I would probably loose my house anyway, by denials of coverage, overcharges and other shenanigans that I have been subjected to in the past. So the question is, do you want people to start to outsourcing their healthcare, because that is what is next.
Just as a point of reference, I am a registered Republican, I jumped the line and voted for Obama twice and I did that for many reasons, but a major factor was for Affordable healthcare.
One more thing, you need to open the government. My brother is a scientist at the CDC and is furloughed, While it is tragic what is happening to children with cancer, using them politically is even more sad, If we were to have an outbreak of some kind without the CDC in place, a lot more children would be dying than those who have cancer. And while I am terribly sorry for the couple who will lose their wedding in the National Park, I am much more concerned that NASA will miss the launch window for MAVEN, costing the tax payers an untold amount of money for the delay and losing science and engineering jobs because launch will be delayed by 26 months. And if an amateur astronomer discovers an NEO on a collision course with Washington DC, or Wall Street, and NASA isn't in place, suddenly NASA would look pretty essential. Those of you who are anti -government only need to look to Somalia to see what happens when government is not in place. You need to open the entire government. Otherwise, in the famous words of Shakespeare, "a pox on all your houses".
