CNN PRODUCER NOTE Jacob Eberhart, his wife, and two other friends have been trapped in their Yukon SUV since the afternoon of October 4, while driving through Sturgis, South Dakota. A strong midwestern snowstorm swept over the roadway they were driving on, causing a whiteout and making the road impassable. Once they were stuck on the road, they called the local police, who said they were unable to come out and get the stranded motorists.
Originally from Georgia, but now currently based out of Denver, Colorado, Eberhart says he has never experience a whiteout like this before. The group had to sleep in their car overnight as intense winds rocked the vehicle, piling snow up along the car doors. The group huddled together to stay warm and conserve gas, and lined the doors of their car with clothing for insulation.t They also ate they remaining snacks that they purchased while at a gas station earlier yesterday before getting trapped in their car.
The following morning, Eberhart says snowplows arrived to clear the roadways, and they are optimistic about heading to the safest place once they're car is freed from all the snow.
