Everyday racism: Your stories
America's Workplace Racism
October 6, 2013 Dear Martin Savidge, My name is Russell Reed Jr. I have an on-going discrimination lawsuit against Tenable Protective Services Company in Cleveland, Ohio. It is my hope that you may assist me in expediting an appropriate resolution to the situation. The case involves me enduring approximately five years of on the job humiliating racial discrimination; incidentally, I was the only person of color assigned to the NEOUCOM Project. As a result, all my witnesses/co-workers who have already given oral and written statements to support my case are all “WHITE.” Additionally, my former supervisor, Captain Clara Smith, made constant derogatory remarks, e.g. Dr. Martin Luther King Day is “NIGGER DAY”. I endured this type of discrimination for the entire length of my employment – approx. 5 years. These discriminatory behaviors were reported to Daniel Yarnell, Director –Tenable Protective Services. I was threatened with termination of employment for voicing my complaint about C. Smith by Daniel Yarnell, Director. My case #532-2011-01561 was filed August 9, 2011 at the Cleveland, Ohio Field Office. Currently, the case is at the forced-negotiations level through Cynthia Stankiewiez Acting Director, Cleveland Field Office. I have spent more than 28 months working with the EEOC and I believe that my case has been placed “on hold”. I am hopeful that by involving yourself and possibly others within the news media that the depth and seriousness of my case will not be lost. I am willing to meet with you, at your convenience, so that you can assist me in resolving my case. I am also able to share with you my records and documentation of the discrimination. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks, in advance, for your help. Respectfully, Russell Reed Jr.
