Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary is a preserve in the state of Rajasthan in central India that is famous for its fortress, which indeed is impressive, with walls extending over 38 kilometers in length. But it’s a rural area – the vast majority of India’s population still lives a rural lifestyle – and we were fascinated by the scenes of rural life that are ageless here. The challenges of India are many: hygiene, lack of a unifying language, superstitious customs and remnants of the caste system, and inadequate sewer and water infrastructure among them. Amidst of the challenges resides a grace that is astounding! The women of Rajasthan dress in the most colorful flowing gowns, and wear them as their everyday apparel. I snapped this shot of a women carrying a basket of manure atop her head and sashaying along the road with more grace the a model at a Milan fashion show. I was mesmerized!
