McCain's Health Care Plan Dangerous
Read the CNN Fact Check http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/10/05/fact-check-would-mccains-health-plan-leave-people-broke/ They conclude that Obama's statements are misleading. What's misleading is that McCain fails to mention that the average 10,000 dollars an employer contributes towards a health care plan is currently tax free. McCain's plan calls for a credit to families, but on the back end they tax the employers portion of the health plan. Many employers will either cut the benefit, and some will reduce it. The bigger problem is that there are very limited and expensive choices for private health care and virtually none for dental care. Dental care has seen it's premiums rise over 1000% since plans were first available. Yet today we still get the average 1000 dollar benefit that people received when dental plans were created. Then there's choice. What choice will you have if your employer refuses to turn over their portion of your insurance to a privately selected employer? Employers get discounts and will lose those discounts if they were to allow people to opt out of those benefits. Then there's the one glaring figure. Where I work they claim they put 11k towards my health care plan. If I opt out, the company only gives me 600 dollars extra in pay a year to choose my own health care. I'm sure many others would say the same. On the flip side there are those who say government health care is socialism. What do you call Social Security and Medicare? Imagine how cheery our economy would be if we were left to help our elderly relatives with their homes and healthcare. There would be no middle class, there would just be poor and rich. I have friends in many other countries and they have all said that they have never had to worry about health care. They may pay higher taxes, but on the long term, they know that no matter what, they will be covered and that they will not have to argue with costs like we do in the US. One friend from England even pointed out how many times he's heard of somoene dieing in the emergency room over here. Without ripping out the current system, maybe we can all meet in the middle. The government states what must be covered by normal premiums, and insurance companies can petition the rest from the government. No bills can ever be sent to the person requesting treatment. Also the hospital and the claims process is seperate and do not talk other than what is submitted for claims after treatment. This would allow doctors the freedom to use procedures that are known to work to save lives rather than try to do what will not saddle the patient with hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical debt. In the end the government should see what frivilous charges insurers are nickle and diming patients and we get health care worry free. Dental too!
