Taste of France in the Tropics
Facing the blue lagoon and shaded by coconut palms, guava, banana and lime trees, Kalinaw Resort in Siargao Island in the Philippines is a sanctuary fit for royalty. From lantern garden pathways to private, spacious villas with minimalist, modern interiors, guests here are surrounded with refined elegance and luxurious solitude.
Since it opened in 2007, Kalinaw has steadily built its own reputation among the premier resorts in Siargao, but isn't so loud about it, just like the discriminating travelers and celebrities that seek its tasteful offerings.
Some of Kalinaw's memorable guests include French film director Michel Hazanavicius and his wife, Berenice Bejo, of the Oscar-winning silent film, The Artist, and Australian singer John Paul Young, known for the hit song, "Love is in the Air".
This vernacular style-luxury resort created by French expats, Fred De Backer and Pierre Zappavigna abounds with open space in-doors and out, which conveys an overwhelming sense of tranquility. It is a true exemplar of the word, “ kalinaw”, which means “peace” in the Visayan dialect.
