Raleigh-Durham Becoming the Next Center of Excellence for Cyber Security
These events are bringing together thought leaders, researchers and technical experts from many different organizations. Examples include the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) annual security conference Triangle InfoSeCon, CarolinaCon, and this year Raleigh experts will be participating a new world-wide movement called Security BSides (BSides Raleigh).
“Security B-sides (BSides) is a community-driven framework for building events for and by information security community members. The goal is to expand the spectrum of conversation beyond the traditional confines of space and time. It creates opportunities for individuals to both present and participate in an intimate atmosphere that encourages collaboration. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from participants.”
Security is top of mind across the entire sphere of IT and the world beyond. Therefore, more people and organizations are interested in the next new thing in security. Security BSides is the place where these people come to collaborate, learn and share.
The security landscape is continuously changing. Today’s cutting-edge exploits are custom-written, stealthy threats that evade traditional security perimeter defenses. It is becoming increasingly important in the modern world for the security community to come together and collaborate more closely to discuss how to stay ahead of the bad guys and new threats.
Security Octoberfest – October 17-18! Raleigh will become the dojo for many security ninjas!

I have the honor to be one of the speakers at Triangle InfoSeCon, have presented for several years at CarolinaCon, and I am one of the organizers of BSides Raleigh; so yes I am biased by all three events ;-)
