This iReport is part of an assignment:
Shutdown over: What next?
Hello, My Name is Non Essential
- hhanks, CNN iReport producer
I am a Financial Management Analyst for The GSA, and I take tremendous pride in my work. This past Friday was supposed to be my day off. However, due to an error that I just happened upon, I worked on Friday to resolve the issue. It was the right thing to do. I did what needed to be done to keep my client happy, and my program happy. That is what I am PAID to do!
I find it simply incomprehensible that I am sitting here at home at my computer writing this instead of serving my Government and my fellow Americans. I do my job every single day, and I do it with integrity, honor, and most of all PRIDE. I am not proud now. I am not proud to be part of a system where people are paid NOT to do the job they are supposed to, while I sit home with no pay. I am simply gobsmacked!
3 years ago as a single woman, I was able to purchase without help my own home. Being someone who came from a broken home, and with no education past High School, it was a proud moment for me. I felt like I had accomplished something.
I now wonder if I am going to pay my mortgage and car payment late for the first time ever. All of this is due to decisions made by PAID Federal Workers!
This is NOT the America that I know. This is NOT the Government that I loved so much, and served with pride every day. This is a sad, sad day for me. I find that disheartening.
I've been called "The loose Cannon of Finance". However, as someone so eloquently put it to me recently, "There is a reason Cannon's have wheels".
Congress, I BEG you to find your wheels, roll on, and let us get back to work!
