So, you're a party in decline and you can't win elections on a national level anymore. Yes, you can convince rural Americans that you're still the Party of Lincoln because they don't have access to much news besides a FOX affiliate in Hicksville USA and by telling them that GOD would be offended if they voted for a Democrat. Afterall, Democrats are for freedom and equal rights for all people not just Christians. So how do you maintain some control in a country where white Americans will soon be the minority when you don't support minorities, women or the middle class and poor? It's easy. You have to be disingenuous. You wrap your self in the American flag, hold up a Bible and claim that, "You're either with us, or you're with those damn socialists, the Democrats." Then you have to gerrymander many voting districts to safeguard a few seats in the House of Representatives where you can hold the Country hostage to your narrow ideology. You claim that you're the Party of Fiscal responsibility and blame the Democrats for irresponsible spending on bank bailouts when that you had suggested. You hire a marketing guy, Frank Luntz, to cleverly spin out talking points and then all in your party parrot what Frank has told you will resonate and poll the best with ignorant rural Americans, the Christian fundamentalists that are waiting for God to fix it and those rednecks that like their large gun clips and automatic weapons. Then you take over as many State governorships and legislatures and pass laws that divide people and cause as much confusion as possible. It's a divide and conquer strategy. By pitting Americans against one another, you can slip in the back door with more policies that benefit a couple of billionaires while you scream at the top of your lungs that, Americans want freedom from big government", and other such catchy slogans. You print hateful bumper stickers and sell the whole robber baron concept on FOX News by suggesting that big government is out to take your money. The GOP wants a balanced budget. They believe that our government should operate as if it were a family budget. The shutdown is a ruse and the debt ceiling discussion is a red herring to what the GOP would really like to see happen- a balanced budget and no deficit spending. Remember, they don't believe in Keynesian spending during recessions. The Republican Party doesn't believe in big government for the people. But they do believe in big government for big business. They give subsidies to EXXON and big oil but don't see a need for Food Stamps. The GOP won't regulate banks, but they don't see the need for Social Security. The GOP is for business and against people. Period. An article was featured in Forbes Magazine that explains exactly what conservatives want to see happen. The GOP want to privatize programs that clearly should remain in the public trust. Social Security should not be given to Wall Street. Here's is what the GOP want for America- a balanced budget. Don't Believe The Debt Ceiling Hype: The Federal Government Can Survive Without An Increase Ignore what you hear and read in the news. The federal government actually reached the legal debt ceiling about four months ago. Since then, the government has been financing its monthly budget deficit by stealing/borrowing money from other government funds, like the federal government employees’ pension fund. In about two weeks, the government will run out of tricks to keep operating as if nothing has happened. If the debt ceiling is not raised by then, the government has to balance its budget. http://www.forbes.com/sites/jeffreydorfman/2013/10/03/dont-believe-the-debt-ceiling-hype-the-federal-government-can-survive-without-an-increase/2/ The last thing the Federal Government needs is a balanced budget. What would we say to Hurricane victims? Geez, we don't have the money because we can no longer spend more than we take in? Deficit spending is necessary at the federal level. Besides, the U.S. Government has a printing press. The average homeowner does not.
