This iReport is part of an assignment:
Shutdown over: What next?
Yosemite National Park
We are a small tour operators near Yosemite National Park in a small town Oakhurst. We are located on the south gate of the Park and we have had several cancellations due to govt shutdown. Our community is hurting really bad as we depend onthe tourist industry. The hotels, restaurants, art galleries, minimarts, specialty stores are all hurting. Our neighboring town Maripos which is on Westgate of the park is also in the same situation. Although Federal workers are out of job they will be getting paid while all the private businesses suffer and will never be reimbursed. Sad part is the tourists who had made plans for so long to visit Yosemite from around the world are upset due to this situation. The Park people say we can go thru the park but we cannot pullover and take a picture. We understand there are no services no food no restrooms but what is the problem if family from Germany can step out and take a picture. Politicians should be ashemed of themselves. If they are Votimg on party lines they are voting for their party not for people who voted them in office.
