Fans Flock to Javits Center for NYCC 2013

Every morning for the past few days, the sidewalks of 34th Street in New York from the 7th and 8th Avenue trains to the Javits Center have been lined with every comic book character and film or television hero you can imagine.

Fans of various shows, movies, comics, and more head to New York Comic Con each year to revel in the geeky celebration to be had there. Some are locals, but some come from across the country and even from overseas to join in the excitement and festivity of the occasion.

From cosplay to comic commissioning, autograph sessions to outstanding panel discussions, there's something for everyone who attends the annual event. First held in 2006, the convention only seems to get bigger every year, and this year, the event was totally sold out.

Jennifer Florentine, of Plattsburgh NY, attended the convention for the first time this year, and was apprehensive after seeing footage from Comic-Con International in San Diego. But her fears were quickly eased by the atmosphere at NYCC.

"It was very welcoming, and everyone was really friendly," she said. "I'm not a cosplayer, I'm not a comic book geek. But just meeting the artists was awesome! I wanna do it every year!"

Johnny King, Florentine's fiancee, was a little overwhelmed by the crowds, but otherwise had nothing but good things to say about the event.

"Both the artwork I got made, and the artists who did the work for me, it was all great," he said. He is pictured above with Bruce Boxleitner, and also met artists Philip Tan and Aaron Kuder.

King was thrilled to meet some of his comic heroes. "I love them more than ever now," he said.

New York Comic Con 2014 will be held October 9th-12th, 2014.
