Noah’s Ark found in Pelion Mountain
After crossing a narrow a turnoff and following a dog’s barks, we found an earthly paradise. A small enclosed garden with vegetables, a homemade workshop about wooden artifacts and a stone road that guides to the..ark compose the image of a small Eden, a scenery that looks alike the film “The Blue Lagoon”.
Stathis and his family live there. He deserted his parental home’s comforts which is in the next village and his wife left behind whatever “futile” –as they claim- had in Athens. Being genial, smiley, serene and deprived of the stress caused by routine, they live in that place creating whatever they regard as needed about their life. “What forced you to do this step?”, I asked him. “What is this that make you better living in a city?”, he answered me consequently. “About what I am concerned is that world, nowadays, deals with the consequences of both the heedless energy’s and the raw materials’ consumption and it’s unawareness of exploiting in moderation and prudently what nature offers us.”, carried on without losing hope and his smile.
He leaded us in his boat which has been coddling for 20 years. His ambition is to make it a convention hall although many people have asked it even though for theatrical purposes. All the useful and decorative objects –from the smallest to the biggest one- that are in this boat are made of wood and handmade by Stathis, as his wife is waded into their decoration with colors and pictures. As many of these objects are dated to the precedent century, Stathis restore and alter them, making them anew. By the way, Stathis has been working as carpenter since he was 12 years old and fabricates or repairs whatever he’s asked for, signing as “NOAH” in his every creation. He turns around all the Europe joining several exhibitions for the purpose of displaying his creations.
Stathis proved for real that the Paradise can be built by our hands confirming the Voltaire’s saying that claims that “Paradise is there where I am”.
