Shutdown over: What next?
TEA Party NOT Leader of 1 Million Veteran March on DC
Roughly 10,000 Veterans showed up in force, as well as the truckers for the constitution group. We marched into DC, went to the WWII Memorial and saw that not only had barricades been disrespectfully placed around the memorials where we honor our dead and fallen, but they had been tied together with rebar.
In anger we quickly began cutting those cables, and neatly....make note...NEATLY...stacking the barricades to the side in a pile. We did not damage any property. In fact, when we left, we even took the trash out. We went on to the Lincoln Memorial, the White House, and the Capitol Building.
Along the way we were met by three groups of riot police. We had no intentions of a confrontation, but we were not going to allow them to put the barricades back up, so we cornered them and refused to let them pass, but gave them free will to turn around and go back (which they did...three times). In this ruckus, these riot police began striking 75 year old WWII veterans with their batons, hitting elderly women with metal rods, because they felt 'threatened'. Mind you no veterans had any weapons. There was, however, one idiot who brought a gun with him, and he was rightfully arrested before anything happened there.
You may have seen some big names in the news about this as well...at least this is all the media is focusing on. Yep, Ted Cruz, Sarah Palin, and a few Tea Party folks did walk around putting signs up to impeach Obama, as well as one idiot even saying for Obama to put down the quran.
Let me be very clear on something. This was not at all ...AT ALL....a Tea Party event. These characters brought themselves here. They may have been invited, but they didn't run this show. We Veterans don't stand behind the cruel comments made towards our president, but we aren't happy with his actions, or lack there of, and we are not happy with his administration.
The 'shoving' that took place with riot police, took place after the riot police began hitting our elderly. We fought back, rightfully, and pushed them out unharmed. We will not tolerate such blatant disrespect for not only our Veterans, but also our elderly.
Later in the day at the Capitol Building I also got to see DC Police put up dual barricades (as a secondary boundary in case of a major riot), they initially had 22 officers on post with one having an M16 and one sniper on post at the top. The snipers and M16 is common. What wasn't common was that 30 minutes later 23 more officers showed up, all 45 having fully loaded 9mm handguns with live rounds, OC Spray, Metal Batons, Tazers, and Cuffs, three more of which also had M16's, and also placed two more Snipers on the roof, along with bringing up two squad cars and a large SUV on the steps of the Capitol Building.
This is later in the day after most of the protesters had gone home. There were maybe 400 protesters at the Capitol Building when the security increased its detail. This is uncalled for. We are Veterans, yes, we have been trained in combat readiness (no more or less than those pitted against us) yes, but we were no threat. This was a peaceful protest, and always was. We never harmed anyone, and had no intention to harm anyone. We wanted to free up our memorials so that we could freely honor our fallen.
I say HOW DARE our government block our memorials! How can we pay our respects if we cannot visit the very things set aside to remember them by? We took down the barricades, and we set them aside. We had no leaders, that's why this was entirely unorganized. It was organic in nature. Ted Cruz and Sarah Palin showed up, they spoke, signed a few things, and left. Harry Reid also showed up (but of course, your news network didn't tell you that either did it?). He spoke, signed some stuff, and left. So what? This wasn't a Tea Party event. You can say that these people used us Veterans, but I don't think so. No one used me except for the media.
And on that note, we Veterans are very..VERY....offended at how the media has painted us. We were painted as "conservatives" and in some cases even called "crazy right wing tea party"....to that I say BULL!
We were not "conservative", we were not "tea party", we were not "right wing"....we are VETERANS, we have SERVED our country PROUDLY, and WE are the front line of defense when our government oversteps its boundaries. If we do not stand up and say ENOUGH, then who will?! Our Active Duty brothers and sisters cannot affiliate themselves with any political agenda, they can't speak out against their government for their actions. We can. And we will. Not for the Tea Party. Not for Ted Cruz or Sarah Palin. NOT for Congress..but FOR THE PEOPLE! We have a right to peacefully protest and to gather together. We caused no one damage, no one harm, in fact we were the ones who took on affliction as riot police were threatened...AS THEY SHOULD BE!
We are the brave, we are the proud, we are the FREE! We made an oath to protect our constitution, and that we will do! Why should the riot police and other police officers be afraid of us Veterans? NOT because we are skilled and trained in combat, but because we are AMERICANS. We ARE the land of the free. If we do not defend our 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, etc. Amendments...then who will?! We have the freedom to stand up to our government and proclaim that THIS is ENOUGH!
I will end with a quote, which will reinforce my comment: The Police SHOULD be afraid of the Veterans:
"When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty."
We stand for liberty. We fought for it, and we sure as heck will fight to keep it. While our brothers and sisters are standing the watch, we are not idly standing by watching. We are actively preserving the freedom we still have.
There WILL be another protest, and this time it will be coordinated, and we VETERANS will come in force. We have no associated strings with ANY political organization, we have no affiliates. We are the free, the proud, and the brave...we don't need any of the extra junk.
