New Music Book Speaks a Different Language
Un Método Tan Fácil Que Cualquier Persona Es Capaz De Aprender A Leer Y Escribir Música, known also by its English title, "The Language of Music Revealed: A Real Easy Way for Anyone to Learn to Read and Write Music" written by author and musician, Barry Araújo Kolman, has recently been published by Editorial Seleer, a well-known publisher in Spain. It is the first book of its kind written completely in Spanish. Its purpose is to teach the non-musician of any age the basic fundamentals of music written in a light but informative fashion.
Kolman first published the English version last summer and was surprised to learn that no such book existed in Spanish. As a member of a blended family, he is sensitive to "exclusion"; anyone being denied services because of national origin, the language we may speak at home, and any other challenges we may face because of who we are.
After an exhaustive search, Kolman was in disbelief that there are so few music books written in Spanish. "In my little corner of the world of music", Kolman states, "I wanted to make changes to the status quo. I believe anyone can learn to read and write music and anyone should be able to do just that." This inspired him to translate his successful first volume into Spanish.
"It was really strange that no publisher in the US wanted to print my book but at least two in Spain jumped at the opportunity. I am really pleased that my Hispanic Neighbors and Community can now learn in Spanish all about music."
Book launches for EL LENGUAJE DE LA MÚSICA, AL DESCUBIERTO is planned locally at Stone Soup books in Waynesboro in December as well as launches in New York City and Chicago. "I plan on working with local school children in both New York and Chicago. I have been invited to speak at a high school in New York where Spanish is the language most spoken."
