Phl quake death toll rises to 81
THE Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) reported that the number of casualties caused by the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck the Philippines on Tuesday morning has already climbed to 81.
NDRRMC spokesman Maj. Reynaldo Balido Jr. said Tagbilaran City in Bohol province has recorded 65 deaths, 15 in Cebu and one in Siquijor.
Tagbilaran City CDRRMC officer Alfonso Damalerio reported that some 106 people in the provinve were injured and 22 Catholic churches were destroyed, including the centuries old Loboc Church.
Damalerio said 18 of the victims were residents of Loon town while two came from Tagbilaran City.
He said the victims died of landslide while their houses were being shaken by the strong earthquake.
The government has already allocated P10 million for relief operations in the cities of Bohol and Cebu, according to Social Welfare and Development Secretary Corazon Soliman.
President Benigno Aquino III will visit Bohol and Cebu on Wednesday.
