My husband and I are both self-employed, and for the past four years health premiums have gone so high, that we have been unable to afford health insurance. We are excited about Obamacare, because we will finally be able to go to the doctor for our health issues without worrying about large medical bills. However, my husband's self-employment is as a contracted interpreter for the U.S. Department of State. He has an assignment coming up at the end of October, which we are counting on to pay for three months of mortgage. However this assignment is now in danger of cancellation if the government doesn't start back up. Unlike other government workers, my husband will not get any back pay. Four of his colleagues have already had their assignments cancelled, and are thus, at a loss for income. If his assignment is cancelled, we will fall behind on our mortgage. So, we are really impacted in two major ways by this inability to come to an agreement. Our family wants Obamacare to be exactly as it is, so that we can feel safe starting January 1st. If they want to improve it later, that's fine. At the same time, we need the government to be back and running immediately so my husband's job won't be cancelled and we'll be able to pay our mortgage. The radical Republicans and their bully tactics our hurting our family directly, and they need to just back down and let Congress do its job.
