HOUSE COMMITTEE ON TRANSPORTATION OKs REP. ZAMORA BILL ESTABLISHING LTO COMVAL
The Committee on Transportation of the House of Representatives approved House Bill No. 577 establishing the Land Transportation Office of Compostela Valley Province during its meeting on October 16, 2013. The bill is principally authored by Rep. Maria Carmen Zamora of Compostela Valley’s first legislative district.
“We welcome this development. This bill was actually passed by the House of Representatives on 3rd Reading during the 15th Congress, but it was not acted upon by the Senate probably due to time constraints. We hope that it will be enacted into law this time around,” the lady legislator said.
Pursuant to Section 48 of the Rules of the House of Representatives, the Committee approved through an omnibus motion all refiled local bills establishing LTO offices which were already approved by the chamber on third reading during the preceding Congress.
“For a long time, the LTO sub-office in Nabunturan has been catering to the needs of our motoring public in spite of budgetary difficulties. With a regular Land Transportation Office for the province, the Comvaleños’ acquisition of driver’s licenses as well as the registration of motor vehicles and other transport services will be facilitated. The same will likewise curb illegal activities concerning the conveyance, transfer, sale or possession of motor vehicles,” Rep. Zamora added.
The measure will now be referred to the House Committee on Appropriations before its plenary consideration for 2nd and 3rd reading.
