This iReport is part of an assignment:
Iceland’s stunning capital
Akurey Island Puffin Colony
- sarahbrowngb, CNN iReport producer
My husband and I travel all over the world performing in our show, Knight Magic, and on our 3rd and last trip to Reykjavík, Iceland we visited in the heart of the summer, and it was the perfect time to visit the puffin colony on Akurey Island, just a half mile off the coast of Reykjavik. There are apparently 12,000 pairs nesting on the island during the summer months, and few people get the chance to see puffin in the wild since they only nest in a few remote places in the world. Photographing the birds while on a boat wasn't easy, since they immediately fly away in hoards if you get within any distance of them, but I managed to get this beautiful shot of a lone puffin in the water. It was such a special opportunity to be able to see these interesting little birds in their natural habitat.
