Residents and Staff of Edgemere Participate in 2013 Walk to End Alzheimer’s Raising Over $20,374
“2013 proved to be another great year,” said John Falldine, managing director at Edgemere. “We are thrilled to have the distinction of largest corporate sponsor for the fifth year in a row. Being able to contribute to such a worthy cause is an honor, and until a cure is found, we will continue to do our part.”
In addition to the funds raised by residents and staff, Edgemere also made donations to the Alzheimer’s Association for various sponsorships, such as, the Greater Dallas Chapter Lecture Series and the 2013 Blondes vs. Brunettes Powder Puff football game.
To raise money, Edgemere hosted a series of events before the Walk. Some of these included a Bingo for a Cause night, a pet contest where residents could pay to vote for their favorite pet to win Edgemere Mascot, and an opportunity for staff members to pay to be able to wear jeans to work.
Edgemere’s sister communities, The Buckingham in Houston, Querencia at Barton Creek in Austin, Mirador in Corpus Christi and The Stayton at Museum Way in Fort Worth will also participate in their respective cities Walk to End Alzheimer’s events. With all five communities fundraising efforts and the match from the SQLC Charitable Foundation, SQLC will have contributed a significant amount to this year’s efforts across the state.
In 2008, SQLC founded the SQLC Charitable Foundation, a nonprofit foundation that operates to make grants to and support programs and services that advance the interests of seniors, from Alzheimer’s research to education.
With 304 independent living apartment homes, 60 assisted living suites, 31 memory care private apartments, and 72 private rooms for dignified skilled nursing, Edgemere is the largest and most comprehensive life care retirement community in Dallas. The community is located in the Preston Hollow/Park Cities area at 8523 Thackery St. at Northwest Highway, Dallas, Texas 75225. The Plaza Health Services at Edgemere located on the same campus at 8502 Edgemere Road at Northwest Highway, offers assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory support services for Edgemere life care residents, as well as for others in the community.
