Long County Georgia tells Largest Animal Rescue to GET OUT.
This just in from http://www.prlog.org/12227989-animal-rescue-shelter-forced-out-of-town-by-local-harassment.html Since January 2011 we have traveled EVERY 30 days from NJ to Long/Liberty County GA. We have created a life line for unwanted, abandoned and death row animals from these communities. In February of 2012, We found the perfect property to build Miracle Ranch.
We contacted (former) Long County Commissioner, Bobby Walker to inform him PRIOR to buying the property we needed of its intended use. Mr. Walker welcomed us with open arms and in fact told us he would waive property taxes and provide local prison help with our mission! Former Code Enforcement Agent, Steve Atkins confirmed via telephone on March 8, 2012 that we were on an unrestricted lot and our rescue work was permitted! We were told, they both informed ALL the neighbors of the intended plans for Huge Gordon Lane!
In February 2013, we were told we had to have a "Public Hearing" based on noise complaints to which we NEVER received anything in writing. After getting our lawyer involved and appearing at this illegal "Public Hearing", the issue went quiet. UNTIL NOW!
Once again, the harassment and the "Make up your own laws, Long County, comes back into the picture! How is it, a small group of volunteers, who have poured over $200,000.00 into a community which is not even ours and have saved over 4000 animals to date and brought INCREDIBLE recources to counties who are now in the spotlight, WORLDWIDE thanks to us, can be informed once again, WE NEED TO GET OUT?
October 5, 2013 marked the LARGEST rescue operation in Georgia State History and it was followed by the notification at a Long County Commissioners Meeting on October 8, 2013 that EVERY animal is to be OFF OUR property by December 1, 2013 and NO more animals are to come out to the ranch!
Despite bringing a mobile vet clinic to a county with NOT ONE VET! Despite involving children, the future generation, a simple GET OUT, is what we are faced with! NEVER to this day, HAS ANYTHING been ben a formal complaint, NOTHING in writing! How is it, OUR verbal confirmation isn't credible to have set up a rescue, BUT Long County's verbal "GET OUT" is going to be enforced? Well, Long County Georgia, especially Commissioner Gordon your attempt to throw out a group who have done NOTHING but save YOUR animals on our dollar. SHAME on this county. This WAS intended to put you on the map! The FIRST of its kind Quarantine Facility. This would have save the taxpayers money by allowing Miracle Ranch and MOMS Rescue to assist. We asked for NOTHING from the taxpayers of your community.
Less then 24 hours after your GET OUT meeting, you dared to call us to help with a Pregnant dog giving birth at animal control? Who is going to be there to call if we are gone?
Please contact Long County Commissioners at 912-545-2141 and voice your concerns. For assistance to MOMS Rescue and Miracle Ranch please call Georgia Pontikakis 912 660-3089
